Sensis, spam, stalkers

Posted in braindump, travel by Jake Tracey on March 12th, 2007

Well, what an interesting couple of weeks I have had!

Not long after putting up this redesign I got a call from my mate Chris letting me know that there was a position open at Sensis to work in the Wireless and Locations department. Ever since visiting the Sensis offices a few months back for World Usability Day, I had thought how great it would be to work in that kind of environment.

A few calls from a recruitment agency later and I was suited up and ready to go to an 11am interview where I met two great dudes, Asaf and Glenn (he is a code wizard). Suffice to say, the interview went pretty well and after a couple of tricky Javascript questions I bid the Sensis offices farewell and headed out to yet another interview - a heads up to those who haven't been involved with recruitment agencies before - they are very quick to get the ball rolling!

A few hours later I go the call back from Louise (my trusty recruitment liason) that I had the job, and would be starting on Tuesday!

I had a big weekend ahead of me, with my good friend and flatmate Tobi leaving on a trip up the coast it was time for one thing... PARTY!

Much drinking and friendly chatting ensued and everyone had a great time. I'll miss ya buddy!

As if I wasn't busy enough already, the weekend also brought with it something I never thought I would have to deal with, a stalker!

A strange chinese girl I met on Skype who recently came to Melbourne has developed a somewhat... pathological attraction to me after I took her out to lunch in the city - eventually resulting in me having to go to the Police and getting some advice. If anyone is after some free advice - don't meet strange people off the Internet too often!

Since meeting this girl I've recieved so many phone calls and SMS messages, but I really started to get worried when she arrived, unannounced at my house, let herself in and was sitting on my couch. Talk about freaky.

But, all is well and hopefully I shant hear from her again.

In other news, me and my trusty housemates went on an excellent road trip to the 12 Apostles on Saturday. If you haven't made the effort yet, I sincerely reccomend it. We stopped off at Bells Beach which is without a doubt one of the most incredibly beautiful locations I have ever witnessed.

10 hours in the car takes it's toll though, I think I'll be catching up on sleep for the next week!

Finally, some of you may (or may not) have noticed that this blog is recieving a massive amount of spam. I'm not completely sure why at the moment (typo has built in spam protection), but I'll get it sorted out as soon as possible!

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!
